When
it comes to providing instruments for the students at Chenta Music
School, there is no compromise, and quality keyboards like the Yamaha

Chenta Music School was opened in October 1997 as
the Keyboard Music School. and within a short time had
achieved what was described by one newspaper as ' phenomenal
success'. The rest of that 1997 article reads:
'The phenomenal success bears testimony to the
expertise of Chenta Ní Riordáin, who spent three years teaching for
Yamaha before embarking on her own business venture.
Located at No. 2 Frenchchurch Street (just off Paul Street Plaza),
the studio can boast of the finest instruments with which Chenta
instructs her students, who range from those of tender ages learning
to play an instrument for the first time to those who may have
played the keyboards or piano before and wish to brush up or further
develop their skills. Beginners of all ages can be instructed
for fun or can take exams if they are more serious about the
keyboard/piano.
Chenta's primary aim is to foster a love of music in each and all of
her students. She currently (1997) has approximately 50 students,
and they are taught in groups of six, with the emphasis being on
enjoyment, especially with the younger students. A lot of
parents do not wish to push their kids into a musical environment
where exams are the priority and this is not a problem for Chenta -
but she also takes students on an individual basis and brings them
up through the grades if this is what they require. Exams are
conducted in association with the London College of Music and Chenta
guarantees rapid progress - indeed several of her students are
already playing in bands of their own.'
(Southside/Northside December 10th 1997) Today, that success has grown to see Chenta Music School become Cork's best
loved Keyboard school. Chenta caters for over 90 students and
schedules her classes to cater for adults or school-going pupils. Chenta
believes that playing music as a group has great social benefit for
those involved. Each year she notices that students who arrive
for their first lesson feeling a bit shy, have developed into
gregarious young people by the end of the year. Public
performance can seem a bit daunting but as a group it is more easily
approached. The students perform each year for their parents
at a public concert, and also at venues such as the City Library or
the Regional Hospital. Chenta points out that Public
Performance is optional.
